England Korfball is pleased to announce the U23 squad that will be participating in the IKF U23 World Championships in Barcelona in October.

The squad will be made up of 16 of England's brightest young stars who will travel to Spain for the biggest tournament in the 2012 IKF calendar. The squad will be joined in training by four reserves over the next nine weeks.

After enjoying a short break at the conclusion of the league season the players came together last weekend for the first training session of a 10 week programme set by Coach Dave Buckland.

Buckland was delighted with the attitude and performance from the squad at the first session and is looking forward to working with the squad over the next 10 weeks.

He will get an early indication of how the squad is gelling when they travel out to Ghent over the weekend of the 18th and 19th August to participate in the international tournament Neerlandia '75.

The players will compete in at least two matches on the first day of competition followed by a two hour training session on the Sunday morning ahead of another two matches on Sunday afternoon.

These matches will prove to be an early challenge for the squad and vital preparation for their upcoming exploits at the world championships.

The squad consists of a mix of youth and experience and will travel out to Barcelona on Friday 12th October. England have been drawn in a tough pool alongside Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, India and the Netherlands.

Their first opponents will be Hong Kong on Saturday 13th October and will complete their pool matches against Germany on Wednesday17th October. The cross over matches start on Thursday 18th October with the final placing matches taking place on Saturday 20th October.

England Korfball can reveal that Tony Woodvine has been appointed Dave Buckland's assistant coach. Tony has a wealth of experience at domestic and international levels, having captained the England senior squad during their successful trip to China for 2011 World Championships.

Terry Sage

Kent Korfball Association would like to pay tribute to one of Korfball's great servants and especially as far as the development of Kent Korfball is concerned.

Those who knew Terry will have immediately warmed to his wonderful friendly nature and that nothing was too much bother.

A great loss to everyone.

KKA Squds were very much a development from Terry Sage, Peter Burt, Jan Hannerkroot, Peter Allan and others. I was fortunate enough to be there as well.

EKA Competitions Forum

England Korfball will be holding a forum to discuss the future of the inter area competition format in September.

The event will include a presentation and review of the current provision for the inter area competition. Time will also be allocated to consider the role of regional academies in the future development of one of korfball's leading competitions in England.


We are really focussing on developing a superb competition, that provides a platform to showcase the talent in the area associations.

The cost of entries is £40 per team payable to Kent Korfball Association.

Entires must be made by 1st July after which time entries will not be accepted. Any team that withdraws after the 1st July will be liable for the full cost of of entry.

National Youth Day 2012

National Youth Day 2012 will be held Sunday 1st July 2012 at Swavesey Village College, Gibraltar Lane, Swavesey, Cambridgeshire CB24 4RS.

 Games will begin at 10am and the competition will close at approximately 5pm. All entries must be received by Sunday 24th June, after which time entries will not be accepted.

 If a team has entered and withdraws after the 24th June, then that team will still be liable for entry fees and further action could be taken by the Competitions Committee.

 Team entries cost £15 per team and all payments should be made to England Korfball Association.

 Entries are for the following age groups:

 Under 9s – playing mono korfball and girls may play as boys and vice versa, as long as each team consists of at least 2 players of the opposite sex, to reflect the mixed team nature of the sport.

 Under 11s – again boys can play as girls and vice-versa, where legal teams exist substitutions cannot be made to replace girls with boys and vice versa, excepting where an injury occurs and in the interest of the game.

 All teams will be under the age group on 1st September 2011. Any player over the age group that is intentionally played without prior consent will automatically render that team/club illegal. Teams can play as composite teams, but will under no circumstance be allowed to win the competition.

EKL clubs are reminded of their responsibilities to National Competitions and the recently introduced bonding system. I would appreciate that all clubs participating in the EKL please indicate how many referees they will be supplying to NYD and their names, so that this information can be passed on to the EKL RC. This is a very referee intensive competition and we do rely on everyone’s goodwill to assist with the event.

 I would like to that everyone in advance for their wonderful co-operation to make this event work so well.

England Trials

England Trials will take place on Saturday 23rd June at Trinity School, Shirley Park, Croydon, CR9 7AT from 10-4.  Cost will be £5.  Anyone who is interested in playing for their country can attend as long as they are current year 6 or above.
